Founded in 2004, CalCEF is a family of non-profit organizations working together to accelerate the movement of clean energy technologies along the continuum from innovation to infrastructure using tools from finance, public policy and technological innovation. CalCEF pursues these goals at the local, state and national levels via three affiliated entities: CalCEF Ventures — a 501(c)(4) investment fund, CalCEF Innovations — a 501(c)(3) that leads CalCEF’s analysis and product development, and CalCEF Catalyst — a 501 (c)(6) trade association platform. CalCEF is lead by seasoned clean energy professionals and is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of leading policymakers, scientists, entrepreneurs and financiers. We believe that a new model of entrepreneurship and financial innovation in the public interest is required to speed the transition to a clean energy economy.

CalCEF Ventures mission is the serial creation of institutions and investment vehicles that accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies, along the continuum of innovation to infrastructure.

Ventures creates institutions and investment vehicles that accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies.  It makes for-profit investments into new funds supporting the public interest in advancing clean energy, catalyzing further private capital, and recycling its profits via an “evergreen” investment strategy into further fund creation. Ventures also makes strategic grants to support the launch and growth of important institutions advancing the broad CalCEF agenda.
