Founded in 2004, CalCEF is a family of non-profit organizations working together to accelerate the movement of clean energy technologies along the continuum from innovation to infrastructure using tools from finance, public policy and technological innovation. CalCEF pursues these goals at the local, state and national levels via three affiliated entities: CalCEF Ventures — a 501(c)(4) investment fund, CalCEF Innovations — a 501(c)(3) that leads CalCEF’s analysis and product development, and CalCEF Catalyst — a 501 (c)(6) trade association platform. CalCEF is lead by seasoned clean energy professionals and is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of leading policymakers, scientists, entrepreneurs and financiers. We believe that a new model of entrepreneurship and financial innovation in the public interest is required to speed the transition to a clean energy economy.

CalCEF Innovations was formed in 2008 to design and pilot business models, financial products and public policies that grow clean energy markets and accelerate adoption of clean energy technologies. Our diverse stakeholders—leading investment firms, policy makers, academics, scientists and advocates—provide a constant stream of insights into the challenges facing this unique and critical industry. This network contributes to our greatest strength: our ability to implement and drive solutions into the public and private marketplaces. We accomplish these goals primarily through our Entrepreneurs-In-Residence Program.
